Downtown`s former Grand Avenue mall could get $9 million in city cash to help pay for redevelopment


Downtown Milwaukee’s former Grand Avenue mall would receive $9 million in city financing help for its redevelopment under a new proposal.

If approved by city officials, it would be the latest in a series of public funds that have gone to the Grand Avenue site since it was first developed in the early 1980s.

The city cash for the project, now known as The Avenue, would be used to pay public access improvements within the buildings, as well as improvements to the outdoor public plaza at its main entrance, according to information disclosed Thursday....

Ken Notes: This is such an iconic space, I hope it can be redeveloped into something very special. Since the anchors are gone, could we attach some hotel space and transit options. The Ritz at Pentagon City near WDC comes to mind and you can still get a $700 room for $150 on the weekend.
