Gov. Evers: State should protect Mount Pleasant taxpayers if Foxconn falls short

On the day when Foxconn Technology Group chairman Terry Gou reportedly was visiting the White House, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers said the state should protect local Racine County taxpayers if the company’s Mount Pleasant campus falls short of original plans.

Local governments have agreed to invest $912 million in the project for land acquisition, utility infrastructure, financing, public safety and roads. Evers was asked Tuesday at a Milwaukee Press Club luncheon whether the state should financially assist local communities if the development is not as robust as the $10 billion investment Foxconn announced in July 2017...

Ken Notes: I agree - Sort of! We need a set of incentives to attract new business to the State and to Mount Pleasant. If we create a great State in which to do business, new business will solve our problems so we do not have to. I did say this BEFORE we made the deal with Foxconn.

I remain frustrated that getting help with your business is more about who you know rather than what we have to offer. We need to create a set of incentives available to ALL new or growing businesses. These incentives should be protected by agreement, tax credits based on jobs, or pay as you go. I was on the Verona council when EPIC came to town and I promise we invested millions yet never had one dime at risk!
