Common Council vote means the $420 million Wisconsin Center expansion can proceed -- after economy improves

The Milwaukee Common Council voted Tuesday to approve the Wisconsin Center expansion — clearing the way for the $420 million project to proceed after the economy improves.

The city is not funding the convention center expansion.

It would be financed by taxes on hotels, restaurants and car rentals levied in Milwaukee County by the Wisconsin Center District. That state-created agency operates the convention center....
