MGE seeks approval for 8-MW solar project in Wisconsin


January 4 (Renewables Now) - Madison Gas and Electric (MGE), a subsidiary of MGE Energy Inc (NASDAQ:MGEE), has submitted an application seeking regulatory approval to realise an 8-MW solar project in Madison, Wisconsin, it announced just before the New Year.

MGE is partnering on the about USD 15.3-million (EUR 12.4m) project with the city of Madison, which will use 5 MW of the output, and the Madison Metropolitan School District, the off-taker of the other 3 MW.

If approved, the solar farm will boost Madison`s renewable power use by almost 20%. The city has set a goal to run all of its municipal operations on renewable energy by 2030, according to Madison mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway...

Ken Notes: I cover this in more detail in WDNGreen.com on Mondays but a few years back MGE asked for my support on some rate changes at the PSC, they promised that they would move rapidly into the renewable market at that time. It is nice to see them following up. If course it does not hurt that it is now profitable to do so....
