Men’s homeless shelter measure fails by one vote at Madison City Council


By one vote, Madison’s City Council failed to approve purchasing a vacant former big-box retail store on Zeier Road, near East Towne Mall, for a long needed permanent men’s homeless shelter.  

The 14-5 decision did not come quickly for the council, which gained new members and saw turnover following the April 6 election, and followed several hours of public testimony and discussion among alders that lasted until the early hours of Wednesday morning....

Ken Notes:We need to rethink this entire topic. We need to build Community Centers for everyone with access to Mail, Internet, Work Space, Health Care and Mental Health, Showers, Laundry, Exercise Equipment, Food... For housing we need to think micro, or co-housing, with some ownership component and self management. Imagine if every neighborhood had one...
